Spinal injuries can paralyze you. If the spine has suffered a trauma then you need to get to a hospital so it can be x-rayed to check for spinal damage.

A bad back can be caused by bad posture. Not sitting or standing right can cause the back to pain. There are different types of back pain and you will know whether the agony or aches you suffer is there because you pulled something in your back or just a result of you sitting in an awkward position.

A common condition where people complain about their back and having trapped nerves is Sciatica

What is Sciatica? Sciatica is a collection of symptoms caused by an irritation or squeezing of one of five nerve roots in the lower back or of the sciatic nerve itself.

Sciatica patients usually suffer pain in one or more of the following areas:

Aching in the buttock and thigh region

Tingling or numbness in the leg

Sudden darting  pains up through the lower back

Most sciatica cases can be credited to one of four chief causes:

Piriformis Syndrome - Formed when pressure is sited on the sciatic nerve by the piriformis muscle (cause of sciatic pain.)

Spinal disc herniation - Reasoned by a spinal disc poking out from between the vertebrae and pushing on one of the sciatic nerve roots.

Spinal stenosis – This is when the spinal canal tapers and squeezes the spinal cord.

Sacroiliac joint dysfunction - Dysfunction in the sacroiliac joint that’s frequently credited to bad posture positions

People look towards exercise for pain relief for back pain, and while this is good measure it can also be bad if you don’t check out what is causing your back pain first. Some back exercises are ideal for healing someone with backache, but depending on the exercise it can also cause back problems or maybe damage it severely if you don’t know what you are doing.

To prevent back pain you need to keep good posture as this is one of the chief causes for the problem. In some cases of severe chronic pain it can leave people good for nothing and laid out on their back for weeks on end. There was a time you would see patients lie on wood boards for relief. Nonetheless we live in a different era where help is readily availed for those with back and spinal problems.

There is a knack to bending down and to how you carry items. If you look towards remedying a couple of things you normally do that could contribute to the problem then you are on the right track in preventing pain. When you stoop down to pick something up, it has to be done with your knees bent and follow them down. It’s little things like this that means a lot to avoid hurting yourself.

If you carry excess weight then this too can cause back problems. If you suffer from backache and your obese then it’s worth considering losing weight to stop the pain.
