Male Thrush
Male Thrush:
Yes that’s right - male thrush. This type of infection is not
just a woman’s condition that people believe it to be. Vaginal
thrush is a common in ladies, but it is however a huge problem
for men too.

Treatment
Thrush is a yeast
infection (also called Candida) and is caused by an
overgrowth of the fungus called Candida albicans. Men with
a foreskin are most likely to suffer from male thrush
infection because the clammy warmth underneath encourages
growth of the fungus. Symptoms of
male thrush are pretty much the same as the female type -
but of course we are dealing and going to tend with a
different organ of the body when looking to treat the
problem i.e. the penis as opposed to the
vagina.
Male thrush can
also be called penile thrush; regardless of what it is
called it is a painful condition for men to have to
endure.
It is
possible to can 'catch' a yeast infection of
the penis through unprotected sex but then again you can be
celibate and still develop
penile
thrush. Yeasts occur naturally
in and on the body,
but they only become a problem when they suddenly start
to overgrow becoming out of
control. Common symptoms are redness (
Inflammation)
and
raised small spots on the
head of the penis or on the
foreskin.
Irritation
and itching are likely
and there may
be a discharge and some material (smegma) may collect under the
foreskin which looks a bit
like cottage cheese and has a yeasty smell. The skin can
feel like its burning when
weeing.
Male thrush
is not a life threatening condition, however still disorder men
don’t wish to suffer from.
If you are
suffering any of the symptoms then pop along to your GP who
will examine you and determine your condition. Once a diagnosis
has been made and clarifies you have the male thrush infection,
the quicker the appropriate medication can be prescribed to
clear the infection
Good hygiene and saline bathing helps,
and keeping under the foreskin dry is most
vital.
Is Jock Itch Your
Problem?
You can try and treat the
infection yourself with an anti-fungal cream called
clotrimazole which you can get from the chemist without
prescription. Keep applying the cream for as long as it
takes to clear up the symptoms and you are totally rid of
the infection. It’s hard I know for some folk, but you
must avoid having sex while infected. It makes sense to
keep you and your sexual partner safe.
There are many conditions we link to women,
but those same conditions affect men too, but usually they come
under another name. So it may pay you to look at the treatments
given to women to clear their problem, which may help clear
yours too. Always check with your GP before endorsing something
new in the way of treatments.

If
you're confident that you do have male thrush and buy some over
the counter medication from the chemist or pharmacy read the
instructions carefully. On the packaging it usually says
something on the lines that if they haven't worked after 7 days
see your doctor, this is not written down for fun, it purely
says that maybe your condition maybe more serious, or something
else that only a doctor can put
right.
